This painting does not accurately show what Hearne and his guide, Matonabbee, would have been wearing. Hearne’s clothing as shown would not have survived the rough travel; Matonabbee would not have been wearing such ceremonial headdress. To travel better, they would have worn sturdy and durable clothes. Hearne adopted the habits of his Chipewyan guide when traveling, which did much to ensure his success.
