| Some important sections:
4: Every vessel carrying emigrants landing in Canada must pay a fee of $2 for each person over a year old. This duty is to be paid to customs officials by the ship's captain. Ships are exempt from this rule if:
5 - 6: Notwithstanding the duty outlined in section 4, an additional duty of $2 is to be collected from all passengers over one year old. This duty is to be paid to customs officials by the ship's captain.
10: A passenger list is to be delivered by the ship's captain to customs officials. No passenger can leave the ship until officials are satisfied with the information on the list is accurate. Captains who let passengers leave in advance can be fined $20 to $100 per affected passenger.
11: Captains who deliver a falsified or inaccurate passenger list to customs officials can be fined $8 per affected passenger.
15: The captain must also keep a list of those who are deaf, dumb, blind, infirm or mentally ill. He can be fined between $20 and $100 for each such unlisted passenger.
16: The passenger list has to register passengers who died, if any, during the journey to Canada.
17: A medical inspector can come aboard a ship at any time to examine passengers. If he finds anyone who might become a drain on society, he is to collect from the captain a bond of at least $300. This bond will be returned in full within three years if the affected person has not threatened the peace and security of Canadians.
