| Post-Loyalist Settlement II (1830 - 1867)
Prince Edward Island: Proclamation regarding length of voyage to other ports in North America, 1849 (Enclosure No. 1)
Document Summary:
This act or Proclamation forces any merchant vessel carrying passengers from the Island to other ports to remain at least 20 days at sea before docking elsewhere. This was to prevent the spread of diseases from this island colony to other ports of call, as it was probably felt that this period of time was sufficient to allow a disease to run its course onboard a ship.
