New Brunswick: An Act to regulate Vessels arriving from the United Kingdom with passengers and emigrants
Document Summary:
The captain of every vessel coming from the United Kingdom must pay a tax of 10 shillings per passenger to the New Brunswick government upon arrival, unless the passenger embarked with the sanction and approval of the British government in the form of a certificate. If this is the case, the tax is reduced to five shillings.
Two children under the age of 14, three children under the age of seven, and a child no older than 12 months with its mother constitute one passenger.
The government of New Brunswick has the authority to sue the captain should he not pay these taxes.
This act is to come into force with the British Crown's assent.
