| Post-Loyalist Settlement I (1814 - 1830)
Portland to Simcoe, 20th May 1795 (Feels no special limits should be placed by Britain on what Crown reserves can be used for.)
Document Summary:
A representative of the British Crown replies to John Graves Simcoe's January 22, 1795, letter and other correspondences.
On the issue of Crown and Clergy lands, the Duke of Portland notes that the sale of these lands will eventually generate a lot of money for the Upper Canada government's immediate use. He says this issue is probably best laid out in an open fashion and decided upon by the Upper Canadian government, not the British Crown.
