An Act for the relief of Religious Societies, March 25, 1828 (Regarding church land for Quakers, Mennonites, Lutherans, etc. in Upper Canada.)
Document Summary:
This act allows clergy reserve land to be given to Presbyterian, Quaker, Mennonite, Methodist, Lutheran and other religious societies. Trustees responsible for the taking, holding and possession of such land are allowed under this act.
A congregation is allowed to hold no more than five acres of land under this act.
The land must be registered with a county register's office within a year of purchase.
Any land conveyances for church use that was made prior to the passing of this act also continue to remain valid.
