Observations of Chief Justice Sewell on the Union of the Provinces

Jonathan Sewell was Chief Justice of Lower Canada from 1808 to 1838.

Sewell suggests that English settlers should be encouraged to come to Lower Canada in order to eventually assimilate the French-speaking Canadians, and that a union of Upper and Lower Canada take place. He also recommends other changes to reduce the influence of the Catholic Church.
