(Renamed Newfoundland Act, 1949)

This act admits Newfoundland into Confederation. Schedule A contains
the terms of union. Some important sections:
- Section 2: Newfoundland to include the coast of Labrador.

Act, 1867 (now renamed the Constitutional Act, 1867)
to apply to Newfoundland as if she were a founding member.
- Section 17: Gives protection from prejudicial legislation
to denominational
schools and colleges.
- Section 23: Canada assumes Newfoundland's debt.
- Section 28: Gives transitional grants to help Newfoundland
integrate into Canada.
The Act gave constitutional protection to schools in seven denominations.
