Bay Articles, 1727 (Adhesion to the first Peace and Friendship
Treaty of December 15, 1725.) Document Summary:
Some Aboriginal tribes and the British unanimously and equally agree upon a method
of keeping the peace in Nova Scotia and Acadia. Should an Aboriginal tribe
become unlawful, other Aboriginal nations who signed the Peace and Friendship
treaties of 1725 are to furnish and supply 150 men and a leader. The British will
contribute 250 men, and merge forces. This group will then be granted the right
to pursue any unlawful Aboriginals by land or sea, and can take whatever means
necessary to convince these people that they must live peacefully and quietly,
and abide by British law. The forces are to be paid and managed by the
British under a general officer selected by the English governor. |
