Privy
Council Report on the Memorandum, 30th April, 1875
Document Summary:
The Privy
Council makes recommendations regarding the Treaties
One and Two memo:
The promises were:
- That the oral promises outlined in the memo be added to Treaty
One and Two.
- That while the Indian commissioner cannot claim anything that
wasn't signed on paper during negotiations as being in a treaty,
the government of Canada is interested in ensuring that the
Aboriginal peoples are content.
- Therefore, extra cash and gifts will be given to these people
each year to address these concerns, but only if they abandon
other 'outside promises' made during Treaty One and Two that
are not already in the memo.
