and Friendship Treaty by the "Eastern Tribes" of Nova Scotia, May 13,
1728.) Document Summary: Peace
and Friendship treaties of 1725 are ratified. In these treaties, King George of
England declares ownership, jurisdiction and control of ancestral lands in Nova
Scotia and Acadia. Aboriginals promise in return to: - Not molest or
interfere in any way with settlers, their dependents or any mercantile traffic
in this area.
- Give back anything they might have stolen from
individuals in the event of theft or robbery.
- Not help any soldiers
trying to escape from British forts.
- Not seek personal revenge
on any British subjects for any reason, and find any redress through British law
instead.
- Release any British prisoners they captured prior
to this treaty's ratification.
