| The
Robinson Huron Treaty, 1850 Document
Summary: Aboriginals living along Lake Huron agree to forever give
up all land and sub-surface mineral rights to the Province of Canada in exchange
for a lump sum of cash, which is to be followed by further annual payments of
money. These Aboriginals are given smaller tracts of land to live on - which
they cannot resell to anyone. They are also allowed to continue hunting and fishing
in the area covered by the treaty, so long as it does not interfere with mining,
lumbering or settlement. |
